PMU Attica 2
Main R&D activities
Within the framework of the National Precision Medicine Network, the Precision Medicine Unit at NCSR “Demokritos” in collaboration with the NHRF and the BSRC “Al. Fleming” will carry out the following activities:
- Provision of specialized diagnostic services for the diagnosis of hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes in patients and families with a history of cancer in young ages. The approach is based on analyzing the individual and family history of patients and their families through the creation of genealogical trees. Molecular genetic analysis of all genes associated to cancer predisposition is then performed using massive parallel sequencing technology of the germ-line genetic material.
- Identification and characterization of new genetic loci / genes related to cancer predisposition through collaboration with international consortia.
- Analysis of tumor material from lungs, colon, breast and other tissues, with the aim of identifying clinically useful biomarkers for targeted chemotherapy.
- Development of new biomarkers for individualized treatment.
